Let’s be honest…

A lot of what we do for God… is actually for people.

The polished setlist.

The perfect transitions.

The “spontaneous” moments we practiced three times in rehearsal.

We say it’s for Him…

But deep down… we feel it…

We want it to land.

We want it to hit.

We want someone to notice.

And here’s the tension…

None of that impresses God.

Not your vocal control.

Not your platform.

Not how many people showed up.

Because God has never been moved by performance.

He’s moved by presence.

In 1 Samuel, there’s this moment where everything shifts.

“Man looks at the outward appearance… but the Lord looks at the heart.”

That wasn’t written to random people…

That was written in the middle of choosing a king.

In other words…

God bypassed the most impressive person in the room…

and chose the one nobody saw coming.

Let that sit for a second.

Because we’re still doing the opposite.

We build platforms around what’s visible.

God builds His kingdom around what’s hidden.

And this is where it gets uncomfortable…

You can lead worship… and not actually worship.

You can preach… and not actually be surrendered.

You can build something that looks powerful…

and still be empty when the lights turn off.

But here’s the part nobody says enough…

That doesn’t disqualify you.

It exposes you.

And exposure… in the hands of God… isn’t rejection.

It’s invitation.

An invitation to come back to what actually matters.

Not the lights.

Not the algorithm.

Not the applause.

But the quiet place…

where it’s just you and Him again.

Because the truth is…

God isn’t looking for the most anointed voice.

He’s looking for the most surrendered heart.

And those are rarely the same thing… at first.

So if you’ve been feeling that tension lately…

Like something’s “off” even though everything looks right…

Don’t ignore that.

That’s not burnout.

That’s conviction.

And conviction isn’t God pushing you away.

It’s Him pulling you closer…

back to a place where your identity isn’t built on what you do for Him…

but on being with Him.

Strip it back.

Turn the noise down.

Get alone with God again…

not as a leader…

not as a creator…

not as someone trying to produce something…

Just as a son.

Just as a daughter.

Because in the end…

God won’t ask how polished it was.

He’ll ask if it was real.
